Deutsche Telekom is extending the VideoMeet service with a new feature: VideoMeet Connect. It allows users to join VideoMeet videoconferences directly from a web browser without the need for additional software. The cloud-based VideoMeet service already allowed for anyone to set up or participate in videoconferences – no matter where or when or what device or video service they happen to be using.

Now, even those users who do not have access to any other popular business or consumer video conferencing client can easily join and participate in a VideoMeet conference. With only one click and without the need to install new software, the VideoMeet Connect function is loaded upon request of the user. It is directly activated in the browser and immediately connects him or her to the VideoMeet videoconference meeting.

“The new VideoMeet feature is the perfect example of how we strive for ease of use in our services,” explains Rainer Deutschmann, Senior Vice President Core Telco Products at Deutsche Telekom. “The new feature enables our VideoMeet customers to reach nearly everyone, even those who cannot install and use one of the popular video clients on their device. With so much ease and flexibility, we expect to see more video calls replacing audio calls underlining our premise that video is the next voice.”

Integration with Microsoft Lync
In addition, VideoMeet now also allows for Microsoft Lync to be connected. Microsoft Lync is widely used in a great number of large corporations. VideoMeet enables them to have videoconferences between their desktop PCs and almost any other device including high-end professional videoconferencing room systems. Lync is the first SIP-connection being made available with VideoMeet. More SIP-connections will follow.

VideoMeet: the successful product of an innovation strategy
VideoMeet is one of the results of Telekom’s innovation through partnership strategy. VideoMeet is delivered in cooperation with California based start-up company Blue Jeans Network. VideoMeet is the first cloud-based multi-party videoconferencing service that connects practically any video client globally. The service enables conferencing between room systems, PCs, tablets, and smartphones even when using Skype, Google video chat or Microsoft. More information about VideoMeet is available here.
